Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Be--

Slamming his hand on the alarm Bertholdt silenced it, not realising it was the snooze button he had pressed. A minute later it repeated its tune,

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Bee--

“Ughhh. Is it time already?” Sitting upright on his bed he glanced over to the muscular lump laying on the bed on the other side of the room grunting and snoring obnoxiously. Bertholdt was an early bird. Every single morning whether he liked it or not, he had to go for a jog before class so as to feel rejuvenated and fresh mentally. It was his secret routine and trick to becoming smart. Well, not really. He was a sporty. “Far out Reiner. You need to learn to control that snoring of yours.”

Reiner obviously was in a deep sleep so Bertholdt paid no heed on quietly exiting. Washing his face and getting dressed, he had some fruit to help with his energy levels and performed a few stretches. Then he left. His jog route was around the lower campus but before he undertook the trek he always went for Milo to give him the ultimate energy.

“Mr. Hoover!” The cashier flashed a wide grin that extended to his cheeks. “Good morning!”

“Good morning,” returning the polite gesture he made his order, “just one large Milo. I got enough money this time, haha.”

“Sure, sure!” Turning around to prepare his drink he added, “Oh yeah, Ms. (Name) was here not long ago. She just got her Milo as well.”

Casting his eyes to the cashier quickly he began interrogating him, “What? Why? What’s she doing up so early in the--? O-Oh I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to put you on sp--”

“Bahahaha it’s okay Mr. Hoover! She’s just like you. She’s doing her daily morning jog!” He kindly gave Bertholdt his Milo and accepted the amount, giving him a bit of change in return. “She just left a couple of minutes ago.”

“O-Okay, thank you!” At that Bertholdt rushed out of the store. Starting at a slow pace he chugged his hot Milo down. Despite the freezing air, he was going to warm up anyways because of the jog. “I didn’t know (Name) jogged as well,” he quietly mused to himself, unbeknownst to the fact that someone was headed his way. Without further notice, he began jogging faster whilst contemplating. The person headed his way was looking at the ground as she bolted. “Ahh what’s the point? I didn’t come here to make friends. I’ve got to concentrate on studyi--”

“Kyaa--!”

“A-Ahh-!”

You and Bertholdt had collided like an accident. Falling onto your rear you winced severely in pain as you began rubbing it sorely. “Ow ow ow ow ow!!! It hurts!!! Who the--?” Looking across you saw Bertholdt also on his rear, rubbing it painfully.

“Ahh, ouch that was a hard fall. Damn that hurts!” Bertholdt was wincing in pain also before glancing across to see the offender. “Who would--?”

Both staring at each other in the eyes Bertholdt quickly got to his feet and hurried close to your injured figure. “A-Ah I’m so sorry (N-Name)! Are you alright?! I wasn’t paying attention t-to the path--”

“O-Oh no no no! It’s my fault for not looking ahead! I thought people wouldn’t jog this early so I tend to look at the ground I guess. I know it sounds stupid! But--” You were embarrassed and was going to fake some excuse to cover it up but you felt strong hands raise you to your feet. “B-Bertholdt,” you looked up at him. “Thank you. Are you okay?”

“Y-Yeah I’m fine!” He dusted himself off showing he was uninjured but he couldn’t help dust you off as well. “H-Here, let me.” It was a habit of Bertholdt. He would help people in every respect despite the fact he was an antisocialist. He enjoyed helping people at least.

“Bertholdt it’s fine really, fufufu,” he backed off at hearing you giggle. “I can dust myself, you know? Fufufu.”

“O-O-O-Oh, s-s-s-sorry (N-Name)...” He was sweating profusely now. So much for exercise to warm the body. All he needed was you to make him sweat like he’s been working out in boot camp. Hearing him stutter like that was adorable and hearing you giggle louder caused him to rain down sweat.

“So, what do you do for sport, (Name)?” After jogging alongside one another awkwardly Bertholdt managed to start a conversation.

“I’m a martial artist. Or tae kwon do. Yeah, I do karate,” you replied. Looking up at Bertholdt you saw his eyes widen with amazement.

“W-Wow (Name), you’re amazing,” he commented without even experiencing firsthand your potential. “Come to think of it, Annie’s in that sporting field too,” he thought to himself.

“Oh Bertholdt you don’t have to say that,” you lightly punched him on the arm and he flinched slightly, jerked from his pondering. “My father taught me self defense as a child and ever since then I was in the Tae Kwon Do Sports Association. Even now I still train and enter into competitions. But enough of me, what about yourself? If you don’t mind me saying, no offense but you look like a track person or basketballer. I’m sorry if you’re not it’s just, those long legs and that long body. They’re perfect for that kind of sport.”

“W-Well you guessed correct,” he was surprised at first but then again people give him that everyday. “In fact, I do both.”

“Uwaah that’s so awesome!” You interjected before he could further explain. “I, uhh, sorry. Go on.”

“No no it’s fine, (Name),” he reassured you. When the two of you had stopped your run you were both back at the intersection where you make a left to the spare rooms.

Looking at the spare rooms you sighed audibly, “Well hopefully today I can find someone who I can share a room with.” Making your left you waved goodbye to Bertholdt, “See you later Bertholdt.”

“Goodb-bye, (Name),” her returned the gesture. He took a chunk back into his throat when he overheard you giggling.

“Why are you so nervous for Bertholdt?” He cussed at himself inaudibly as he trudged through the hallway to his first class, Law. “She’s just another person who probably socialises. But she’s smart...” He continued ruminating about you as he made it through the door to the lecture theatre. The theatre was gigantic and held a maximum of five hundred students. Being the loner he was, Bertholdt ran to the upper back seats and placed himself in the corner. That was his favourite spot because no one could disturb him. They didn’t like him anyways because he was a queer boy despite his good looks. All the students congregated in the theatre as the professor began his lecture.

“Welcome back everyone, shall we make a start?” The French professor was short with long hair on his top but short shaved around the sides. However his eyes were strong enough to pierce through the souls of people. His voice was sharp and stringent. “Right, from this semester onwards we will be taking attendance of each lecture to ensure you are benefiting fully from it.” Hearing some convolution and objective groans he continued, “That’s if, you all want to fail this course by simply thinking of skipping lectures and listening to the recordings of it online. This service isn’t free so get your arses together. Look at Hoover.”

“Oh no,” Bertholdt mumbled. Professor Levi always placed Bertholdt as the high bar setter for the class and that was another reason why they didn’t like him.

“Always attends his lectures and look at his score for last year’s exam.” Levi decided to say no more because it would just irritate his students. “The roll will be making its way around. I just have to add another name to it.”

“Another name?” Bertholdt was beginning to think of the possibilities. Then he remembered.

“Psychology and Law...”

“(Name),” recalling what you told him last night he said your name just before--

“S-Sorry I’m late Professor Levi!” Bursting in through the door a gust of wind rushed past your back, blowing your hair messily as they danced around your face. “Pfffft what the--?” The class burst into laughter at your humiliating entrance. Way to make a good first impression. “Gahh damn it!” You cursed out loud making the class go silent.

“(Name), is it?” Levi had the usual unfazed look. “Just sign your name on this roll here. We’re taking attendance from now on. Then find your seat, if your can.” The theatre was clustered with students and you had to come in literally half an hour prior to the lecture’s commencement in order to get a seat. “Actually, there’s a seat next to Hoover.”

“Oh God no,” Bertholdt was perspiring as usual. All eyes were on him now. Little did you know that he was the isolated odd ball. He never told you anyways. “Don’t co--”

“Oh hey, Bertholdt!” Without haste you ran up to where he was sitting and took the seat next to him. “Hahaha what a coincidence! The head teacher said there were two classes but the other one was full. I thought you would be in the othe--”

Clearing his throat Levi snapped your attention back to him. All eyes were now on the two of you. Confused, you shot others a mild glare to scare their eyes off of you and Bertholdt. The lecture had begun. The both of you took notes and wrote like it was a never ending story. Bertholdt looked at your page and you had already completed seven pages of notes. Gawked, he nudged you gently on the elbow and it slipped off the armrest, causing you to lose balance. Shrieking mildly you stared at him. “O-Oh s-sorry (Name)!” He whispered. “I just wanted to compliment you--”

“Heehee two can play at that game,” you smirked and it frightened him slightly. So, you nudged him back on his left elbow causing him to lose balance. Noticing the pen in his left you brought your left up to show him the pen in its grasp. “What a coincidence.”

Bertholdt was speechless. It was like you were a replica of him. That changed when group work started. You seemed to be very social with others in the class. Asking Bertholdt to join the group collaboration activity he seemed reluctant and you found it strange. One of the students, obviously noting you were unaware of Bertholdt’s personality decided to inform you. “He’s not a socialist (Name). Just leave him.”

“H-Huh? But he-” you were about to object until someone else decided to blurt out something that caught your attention.

“He probably likes you that’s why he’s only talking to you,” the other student said.

“Wha--?”

“That’s not true!” Bertholdt indignantly interjected. “You all well know that having a girlfriend will just hinder you from your studies.” He realised he was standing so instead of sitting back down he bolted out the door with his belongings. However, he was so swift his phone dropped out of his pocket.

“W-Wait, Bertholdt! You’r--” Before you could order him to stay he was out like thin air, vanished out of presence. Grabbing your belongings you heard murmurs and you couldn’t stand it. “You people need to learn some respect and manners.” Looking over to Levi you bowed in apology before taking your leave.

Exiting to the quadrangle you searched for Bertholdt but he was no where to be found. The campus was huge so getting lost didn’t require any work. You could just walk amidst the crowd and you’ll be lost in the sea of constantly on the move students. “Tch, I guess I’ll talk to him later if we see each other.”

Eventually, class for the day was over for you. Psychology fried your brain so you made resolve to do some training so as to release some tense stress. Grabbing your sports gear you made it back to the quadrangle before dwelling on your location, “Where is the tae kwon do training area?” Peering over into the distance you noticed a hall with it’s doors open and some students in white clothing with various coloured belts around their waists supporting their robes. “Ah! That must be it.” Upon entering the students flocked around you. “Hello, I’m (Name). I just transferred from Jiyuu Tsubasa University. I’m a professional black belt in martial arts.” Taking note of your uniform, they dispersed as a blonde girl with azure eyes walked up to you, wearing a black belt.

“(Name), I’m Annie. Annie Leonhart,” the rather short girl introduced herself. “I’m the captain of this group.”

“Nice to meet you Annie,” you returned the introduction with a bow, fist in hand. Hearing a pleased hum from Annie you smiled lightly.

“Reiner!” Bertholdt burst through his dorm door.

“Whoa whoa dude!” Reiner was on his bed, topless with blankets over his lower body as one of his hands disappeared under the sheets to grip on the pointed object erecting itself  from under it. “Knock before coming in!” His face was flustered.

“W-What are you doi--?” Before Bertholdt could finish he realised what his best friend was doing. “Reiner, why?”

“Aww c’mon dude it’s in every guys--”

“I lost my phone,” Bertholdt couldn’t be bothered. He had to put up with it since last year and he was sadly used to it. Even though it grossed him out to the core. “Have you seen it anywhere by chance?”

Pulling up his pants and tossing the blanket aside Reiner got up. “Nope. Didn’t you take it with you this morning before class?”

“I-I--” Before he could continue he heard a familiar voice along with Annie’s, walking down the hallway. Annie’s dorm room was opposite of Bertholdt and Reiner’s.

“Thanks for all this Annie, I appreciate it,” you offered your gratitude to her as she led you to her room.

“It’s okay. It’s good to share a room with someone whom you share a common ground with,” she waved her hand brushing off your thanks.

Bertholdt froze in his tracks. His back was sticking out of the hinge of his door. “Oh I see Annie’s finally found a roommate,” Reiner peeked his head past his best friend’s stagnant figure. “Who could it be--?”

“I can’t wait to meet these friends of yours,” you were jumping lightly with joy. “Please, tell me more about them.”

“Well one of them is more muscle than brain, and the other is a nerdy antisocialist. I still see him as my friend though,” she elaborated a bit further since she was giving you vague details throughout your walking conversation.

“H-Hey, I’m not,” Reiner was about to jump out and charge at Annie until he saw you, “W-Whoa, who’s the hot chick?”

“R-Reiner don’t that’s--” Bertholdt was cringing.

“Oh, there they are,” Annie said as you finally arrived at her dorm door, which was opposite of the other.

Looking at the boy’s back who was facing you you were about to call out his name, recognising his figure, “Bertho--?”

“Yo!” Reiner’s thunderous voice drew your attention to him. “Sup girl?” He patted you lightly on the head as he smirked. “Reiner Braun.”

“This is Reiner, the ‘more muscle than brain’ guy,” Annie monotonously said. “This is (Name).”

“Shut up Annie, I’m smarter than you think,” Reiner shot back. “And nice to meet you, (Na--)”

“Then what’s that?” Pointing down at his half hard member you casted your eyes down to see what it was.

“F-Fuck off that’s my business and not yours!” He scowled before returning to his room. “Bertholdt don’t be rude dude say hello to (Name). It was nice meeting you!”

“Likewise Reiner!” Returning your gaze back to Bertholdt you chuckled, “What a coincidence. Oh that’s right Bertholdt I have your--”

Turning around Bertholdt grabbed your hands and clamped them in his sweaty palms, “(N-Name), I’m so sorry for not telling you properly about myself! Please, forgiv--”

“Hey hey Bertholdt it’s fine, really,” you patted his hand softly and handed him his phone. “We just met. I can’t demand every information about you at once. That’s unreasonable.”

“Thank you so much (Name). I’m glad you understand,” Bertholdt sighed in relief, “I owe you one too. Haha I owe you twice now, one for the Milo and now for my ph--”

“No need Bertholdt.” Hugging his midsection he tensed up and you couldn’t help but let the words slip, “You cutie.” Aware of what you just said, you quickly released him before apologising, “S-Sorry I didn’t mean to uhmm, say that. Just, just forget what I just said...” You saw a tint of disappointment in his eyes but you brushed it off. “I guess we’re dorm neighbours! Hahaha, let’s be good neighbours to each other then shall we?”

“Y-Yeah,” Bertholdt nodded his head in agreement.

“Sure thing babes! You’re the hot girl next door,” Reiner’s voice from the background made you laugh.

“Shut it Reiner, you pervert,” Annie shot back at him and he swore back at her.

“Well then, I’ll see you guys tomorrow then!” You bid farewell for the night as Annie led you into her dorm room.

“G-Goodnight, (Name),” Bertholdt waved at you.

“Goodnight, Bertl,” you replied unaware of what you just called him.

“B-Bertl?” He was surprised you called him by his nickname only his mother knew. “Perhaps it’s just a coincidence. It’s easy to come up with a nickname for me anyways.”

Yeah, what a coincidence.

Chapter II - Coincidence

Sorry this took a while to get up guys. I'm currently suffering a bit from writer's block but have no fear! I will be fine.

I've just been drawing Reiner a lot and writing has been blocked temporarily. If I write then art will be blocked. That's how my brain works apparently. But I will manage the two eventually.

I liked writing this because of the coincidental aspects of Readerちゃん and Bertl.

Enjoy and please, comment your feelings to fuel me ;¬;

Love you all!

Sincerely,

Atashi
